National Scenic and Historic Trails: Cornerstones - Presentation

06-03-2024 04:11 PM

To kickoff the first session of the National Scenic and Historic Trail’s (NSHT) track, participants will learn about the inspiring National Trail System Act and its mandate to protect the nature and purposes of NSHTs, planning and policy foundations, the importance of NSHT management corridors, and cooperative management of multi-jurisdictional trails with federal administrators, land managers, and non-profit partners. After completing the full track, participants should have a complete understanding of IAM and establish a foundation from which field staff can inventory and assess the four landscape elements (scenic, cultural, recreational and natural), including unique considerations for National Scenic Trails and National Historic Trails.

Those interested in the all-day National Scenic and Historic Trails Field Workshop on Wednesday should attend this session.

  • Develop a holistic understanding of the IAM methodology, its importance and how it relates to the National Trails System Act, administrative priorities, and agency policies
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of agency staff, and how trail associations, partners, and local-state-federal agencies can get involved
  • Understand the interdisciplinary data standards involved
