Training and Technical Assistance for the Outdoor Recreation Economy in Oregon

Oregon supports a robust outdoor recreation economy particularly in rural parts of the state that have abundant natural and cultural resources and public lands. This webinar will feature the work of Travel Oregon and Oregon State University to support training and technical assistance to help tourism destinations, community managers, and outdoor recreation industry employees thrive. Travel Oregon hosts destination stewardship programming across the state to strengthen Oregon’s position as a premier destination while also stimulating the local economy, protecting and enhancing local resources, and supporting equitable access. The OSU Center for Outdoor Recreation Economy supports research, partnerships, and technical skills and leadership training programs. These and other programs in Oregon are supporting sustainable destination stewardship and employee development. 

  • Understand the importance of outdoor recreation as a strategic economic driver and investing in outdoor recreation workforce. 
  • Identify training programs for people working in the outdoor recreation industry in Oregon and beyond. 
  • Understand Oregon’s Destination Stewardship Approach working to balance the economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism – through outdoor recreation. 
  • Identify how destination and tourism entities may be great partners in developing and stewarding outdoor recreation assets on public lands.
