Join this second NSHT session to learn how BLM’s Inventory, Assessment, and Monitoring (IAM) methodology provides a way to foster interagency data sharing and protect the resources along our National Scenic and Historic Trails. As a tool for future cooperative interagency stewardship of National Scenic and Historic Trails, IAM strengthens not only the entire National Trails System but also can be adapted to local and regional trails as well.
The session will introduce IAM methods and how proper inventory enables managers to make informed decisions on recreation site planning and development proposals that may affect National Scenic and Historic Trails. The session will cover conducting trail segmentation, identifying Inventory Analysis Units, defining indicators and pre-field data collection for each of the four landscape elements – scenic, cultural, recreation, and natural. Those interested in the all day National Scenic and Historic Trails Field Workshop on Wednesday should attend this session.
