REGISTRATION OPENING SOON!

As we continue to welcome more people to public lands, finding ways to balance high quality visitor experiences with natural and cultural resource protection can feel daunting. The Visitor Use Management Training and Symposium is a great opportunity to connect with others from across the US and Canada who are developing innovative solutions and honoring tribal approaches and treaty rights to plan for and manage outdoor recreation in natural settings.
Join us June 2-5, 2025, in Vancouver, WA, to:
  • Gain a foundational knowledge of the terminology and definitions associated with visitor use management
  • Understand and begin to apply the elements and steps of the Visitor Use Management Framework
  • Understand limitations of the Visitor Use Management Framework including perspectives of Indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Understand Tribal Treaty Rights in the context of recreation planning and visitor use management.
  • Understand resources available for visitor use management planning and implementation, network with other planners and practitioners, and feel part of the broader VUM community
The Visitor Use Management Training and Symposium includes 1.5 days of training (June 2-3), a 1-day symposium featuring case study presentations (June 4), and a 1-day field workshop (June 5) with options to see visitor use management in action in Washington and Oregon. The event also includes two keynote panels featuring indigenous perspectives on treaty rights and outdoor recreation and managing visitor use along the 2,800-mile Pacific Crest Trail.
